  • Seetha Amman Temple is believed to be the place where Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, was held captive by King Ravana. Located amidst lush greenery, the temple features footprints said to belong to Hanuman and is a significant site for devotees tracing the Ramayana trail in Sri Lanka.

Seetha Kotuwa is said to be the location of one of Ravana’s palaces where Sita was first kept. Surrounded by dense jungle, the ruins of this ancient site offer a glimpse into the grandeur of Ravana’s reign and its connection to the Ramayana.

Kotmale is linked to the Ramayana as the hiding place of Sita after her abduction by Ravana. Legend says the area was flooded to create the Kotmale reservoir, and some believe traces of Ravana’s kingdom remain submerged beneath its waters.

Munneswaram Temple is where Lord Rama prayed to Shiva to absolve himself of the sin of killing Ravana. It is a revered site for Hindus and features a vibrant temple complex with ancient architecture.

Manuari Temple is believed to mark a place where Ravana’s troops rested while transporting Sita. The temple is significant for its connection to the Ramayana and for being a testament to the cultural and religious links between India and Sri Lanka.

Dolukanda is linked to the Ramayana as a part of the region where Hanuman is said to have dropped a chunk of the Himalayan mountain. The flora here is unique, thought to have medicinal properties from the mountain brought by Hanuman.


Nilavarai, a bottomless well in Jaffna, is connected to the Ramayana. It is believed that Ravana stopped here to drink water during his journey with Sita. The well remains a fascinating natural and historical landmark.

Laggala is said to be the watchtower of Ravana’s army during the battle against Lord Rama. The area is steeped in Ramayana lore and offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills, adding to its mystique.

Dunuwila is believed to be the location where Lord Rama aimed his final arrow to kill Ravana. The site is marked by legends and has become a point of interest for those exploring the Ramayana trail.

Yahangala, or the “Rock of Rest,” is believed to be where Ravana’s body was laid to rest after his defeat. The site offers stunning views and is revered as a sacred place in the Ramayana lore.

Divurumpola is the site where Sita underwent the Agni Pariksha (fire test) to prove her purity after being rescued by Lord Rama. The location is still venerated and features a serene temple.

Ravana Waterfalls is connected to Ravana’s kingdom, where he is said to have hidden Sita in nearby caves. The majestic waterfall is a popular tourist attraction and an essential stop on the Ramayana trail.


Kelaniya is believed to be the place where Vibheeshana, Ravana’s brother, was crowned king after Ravana’s defeat. The Kelaniya Temple is a sacred site featuring Buddhist and Hindu connections, including its links to the Ramayana.
